Educational Workshop: Basic Neuroimaging in Dementia

Friday, July 20, 2018
8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Chicago, Illinois

Overview

The Educational Workshop: Basic Neuroimaging in Dementia will provide practical information and an enhanced understanding of the fast-growing fields of amyloid and tau imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron imaging tomography (PET).

The in vivo imaging biomarkers field for Alzheimer's disease and related disorders is rapidly expanding. The purpose of this multimodal neuroimaging workshop is to provide research investigators, clinicians, residents, fellows, graduate and post-graduate students with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles, inherent limitations and clinical and research applications of the most prominent neuroimaging modalities in the dementia field — structural MRI, metabolic FDG PET, and amyloid and tau PET imaging. Together, these four techniques comprehensively probe the molecular-, cellular- and system-level neurodegenerative changes in the brain.

Lectures will be followed by interactive sessions to ensure that participants gain an in-depth appreciation of some of the commonly used interpretive clinical and or research applications for each methodology.

This workshop is organized by the Neuroimaging Professional Interest Area (PIA) of the Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART).

Agenda

The agenda will be posted at a later date.

Target Audience

This workshop can serve as a beginners or refresher course for established investigators, clinicians, and trainees.

Registration

Educational workshops require a separate registration fee in addition to AAIC full conference registration or it may be purchased as a stand-alone event. Registration will open in February.

About ISTAART

ISTAART logoThe Alzheimer's Association International Society to Advance Alzheimer's Research and Treatment (ISTAART) is a professional society for individuals interested in Alzheimer's and dementia science — including scientists, physicians and other professionals involved in the causes and treatments of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. ISTAART membership makes AAIC even better: receive discounted registration, participate in professional interest areas (PIA), attend PIA Day scientific sessions (Saturday, July 21) and attend exclusive member-only scientific and networking events. Members also receive ongoing benefits throughout the year, including an online monthly subscription to Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association, free online access to Neurobiology of Aging, access to the online career center, monthly e-newsletters, networking forums and extended LOI deadlines for the Alzheimer's Association International Research Grant Program.

Non-members are encouraged to learn more and join ISTAART. Non-members may also join ISTAART during AAIC registration — select "Member +PLUS" or "Student Member +PLUS" as the AAIC registration category to purchase one year of ISTAART membership in addition to AAIC registration at the member rate. Available to new members only.

Abstract Submissions Now Open!

The Scientific Program Committee is now accepting submissions for poster presentations, oral presentations and featured research sessions. Submission deadline is January 29. Need more time? Become an ISTAART member and extend your deadline until February 2.
