Associate Director Constituent Events

General Summary

This full time exempt position plays a key role in the leadership and management for the Chapter's constituent events to expand reach and increase revenue to ensure alignment with the Association's strategic plan. The Chapter's constituent events represent more than $1.5 million in revenue, and therefore, require a seasoned professional with demonstrated success surpassing goals and managing staff.

This position will report to the Development Director and is located in Timonium, MD.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide manager level leadership, oversight and implementation of fundraising programs to ensure a diverse revenue stream from corporate sponsorship, corporate gifts, individual gifts and participant income for all fundraising events.
  • Responsible for achieving current revenue targets and expense budgets for Walk to End Alzheimer's, The Longest Day and other third party events with direct accountability for goals set forth in the annual budget. 
  • Train, supervise and evaluate the work of constituent staff (Walk to End Alzheimer's and The Longest Day.) 
  • Follow a comprehensive development plan that includes budgets, timelines, team recruitment and retention strategies, volunteer committee development, and logistics. Ensure alignment with national best practices, standards and guidelines. 
  • Participate in the development and execution of the annual strategic implementation plan for the Chapter. 
  • Maintain relationships with key corporate sponsors year-round and insure involvement in all relevant Chapter activities and recognition opportunities. 
  • Proactively lead the department to develop new corporate/organizational partnerships to accomplish key awareness and engagement objectives to new audiences at regional levels. Build upon emerging success in all areas of responsibility to engage significantly more new companies through sponsorship, cause marketing and employee engagement. Directly engage with companies to steward new relationships. 
  • Promote employee education sessions in local companies to generate awareness for our cause; to give back to the corporate sector; and to open doors for new corporate partnerships, including sponsorship opportunities. 
  • Identify, recruit, train and manage high impact volunteers who will assist the organization in increasing concern and awareness as well as growing revenue across all constituent events. 
  • Manage individual relationships to include securing new intermediate gifts while building a pipeline for major gifts. 
  • Build an understanding for the Alzheimer's Association; its research, programs and services in all communications with current and potential volunteers and donors. 
  • Represent Chapter at public and media events, as well as conferences and workshops. 
  • Assure compliance with all policies, procedures, standards and applicable regulatory requirements; promote Association-wide programs and initiatives. Ensure proper preparation and timely submission of reports as requested and required. 
  • Partner with Director of Communications in implementing overall and individual walk media plans and marketing of The Longest Day.
  • Coordinate with counterparts in Region 14 to promote achievement of regional goals. 
  • Perform those additional duties deemed necessary by the Development Director.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Business, Marketing or related field preferred.
  • 8+ years professional experience in marketing, fundraising, non-profit management, special events or related field. Experience with mass marketed events preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, coach and supervise staff and volunteers in achieving annual fundraising goals.
  • Proven success in cultivation and solicitation of corporate sponsors and individual donors to meet fund development goals. 
  • Prior experience with constituent relationship manager software (i.e. Convio Luminate, Blackbaud, etc.) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, set priorities, delegate and meet deadlines with minimal supervision when faced with competing demands. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. 
  • Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and able to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
  • Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of large events preferred. 
  • Prior experience working with volunteer groups.
  • Outgoing, positive, engaging and enthusiastic. 
  • Strong customer service focus to deal with a variety of personalities in a positive manner. 
  • Ability to work with diverse communities and demonstrate inclusion. Bi-lingual in Spanish a plus. 
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google+ required. 
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willingness and ability to represent Chapter at meetings and special events. 
  • Ability to travel extensively in Chapter territory, as well as occasional overnight travel or travel by air.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance and access to reliable, personal vehicle to meet travel requirements. 
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
