Regional Coordinator

General Summary

The Regional Coordinator will develop and implement strategies to build community awareness of the Alzheimer's Association as a resource for education, support services, volunteer, advocacy and fundraising opportunities. The position will provide support to all development activities on the Island of Hawaii to meet and exceed revenue goals. The position will also mobilize volunteers to increase program delivery and support services throughout the community. Additionally, this position will create strategic and collaborative alliances, and position the Association within the service area as the leader in Alzheimer's care, support and research.

This position is located in Hilo, Hawaii and reports to the Director of Programs and Public Policy.

Essential Job Functions

Community Outreach

  • Build community awareness of the Alzheimer's Association as a resource for education, support services, volunteer, advocacy and fundraising opportunities. Maintain a positive, visible public image ensuring that the Association is recognized as a regional leader in the field of Alzheimer's disease. Drive concern and awareness efforts by participating in community events and serving as local spokesperson.
  • Assure that excellent outreach processes are in place to identify program and service needs within diverse communities, including underserved populations.
  • Manage the distribution of Alzheimer's Association materials and education information within the community.

Development

  • Assist Director of Development and Signature Events Coordinator with the planning and implementation of all fundraising events, with special emphasis on
  1. Walk to End Alzheimer's, to include team captain/walker recruitment and retention; sponsor cultivation and solicitation; promotion and marketing activities; and all event logistics and
  2. The Longest Day, including team captain/participant recruitment and retention; event communication at the local level; and related activities.
  • Support other chapter development efforts and initiatives, such as corporate initiatives.

Care and Support

  • Recruit, train, and manage a cadre of volunteers to deliver educational presentations to caregiver, community, and corporate audiences, and facilitate professional trainings to clinical and allied health professionals.
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteer support group leaders and facilitate support groups when needed.
  • Conduct care consultations via telephone, in-office and in-home with families of persons with dementia.
  • Engage Physician Champions and conduct outreach to medical professionals and service providers to promote patient, family and education services.
  • Perform regular tracking and data entry into Personify system; provide monthly data and statistical reports to Director of Programs. 

Volunteer Management

• Recruit, train and manage high impact volunteers who will assist the organization in growing revenue as well as increasing concern and awareness, specifically in support of the Walk to End Alzheimer's, The Longest Day, and program delivery.

Other Job Functions

  • Implement the Chapter's Strategic Plan initiatives, programs and activities for the purpose of meeting designated goals, objectives and service metrics.
  • Support chapter and national Advocacy and Public Policy goals. 
  • Provide ongoing support to overall operations of the service area to include: customer service to constituents; database management; donor/sponsor/advocate relations and communications; management of vendor relations, etc.
  • Prepare and distribute communications to volunteers and donors, via email, print, and telephone, based on the Association's communications timeline and additional needs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's degree in public health, social work, counseling, gerontology or related field.
  • 3+ years' experience working in Alzheimer's or dementia field preferred.
  • Experience implementing and delivering community programs, with demonstrated success in volunteer management and growing program services.
  • Experience in training and instructional presentations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong public speaking skills.
  • Experience in volunteer management and support.
  • Stellar customer service skills when working with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of people including persons with dementia, family caregivers, donors, corporate leaders, physicians, and volunteers.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google web applications.
  • Must possess a reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must be willing and available to work occasional evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Must be able to lift, transport and carry up to 25 pounds of supplies and equipment.

  • Be comfortable operating within an independent environment and being directly involved with both external outreach (community) as well as internal tactical operations (Chapter).
  • Proven ability to build relationships founded on trust, follow-through and commitment which will enhance and further the Alzheimer's Association's mission, vision and organizational values.
  • Demonstrated success in creating and nurturing community relationships. Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, electronically and publicly to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to analyze complex information, recognize the need for supervision, request necessary assistance and make timely, appropriate decisions within areas of responsibility.
  • High level of confidentiality, integrity, diplomacy and initiative.
